Dear students, parents and friends,

I am pleased to welcome you to Rafa Nadal School, an international school that since 2016 aspires to academic excellence, fostering personal growth and promoting the values of sport inspired by Rafa Nadal himself. Our mission is to provide an enriching environment that inspires our students to be responsible, respectful, independent so that they can become critical thinkers who discover their potential, develop their talents and embrace the values of teamwork, respect and perseverance.

At Rafa Nadal School we believe that education goes beyond what happens inside the classroom. Our unique approach integrates academic programs that embrace sport and its values, reflecting the spirit of determination and commitment embodied by Rafa Nadal himself. Our dedicated team of educators and trainers are committed to guiding each student on their journey, ensuring they have the tools to succeed in both their studies and their sporting pursuits.

Since opening its doors in 2016, the Rafa Nadal School has established itself as one of the leading international schools in the Balearic Islands.

Curriculum

RNS offers a rigorous and personalized educational program that is accredited by the Spanish system by La Conselleria de Educación y Formación Profesional del GOIB as a Centro Docente Extranjero Rafa Nadal International School. We have designed a curriculum based on the British Primary System accredited by the British Council and the American Educational System accredited by the MSA.

Our differentiated academic curriculum, high quality teaching and excellent facilities support each student’s learning journey throughout the school.

Secondary

The RNS high school curriculum is based on the AERO standards, a project supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Overseas Schools and designed specifically for American international schools based outside the U.S. By basing our curriculum on the AERO standards, we ensure that our academic objectives are in line with U.S. standards.

Primary

At RNS, our Primary curriculum combines the excellence of the English National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage, enriched with elements of the Spanish National Curriculum to reflect our unique international setting. This forward-thinking approach ensures that every child benefits from a world-class education that is both academically rigorous and deeply nurturing.

Children are inspired by subject-specialist teaching in Spanish, Catalan, music, computing, swimming, physical education, and tennis, giving them access to expertise that allows talents to be discovered, skills to be mastered, and passions to be pursued from the very start of their school journey.

Communication

Welcome meeting

At the beginning of each academic year, all families are invited to an information session where they have the opportunity to meet the teaching staff and learn about the main goals, projects, and priorities for the year ahead.

Parent-Teacher Meetings

Throughout the academic year, scheduled parent–teacher meetings take place on three separate occasions. In addition, parents are welcome to request individual meetings whenever they feel they are needed.

Digital communicartion

The Rafa Nadal School embraces innovation and technology as key tools for strengthening communication with families. Through educational platforms such as PowerSchool and Google Classroom, parents can monitor their children’s academic progress and stay in direct contact with teachers via email.

Accreditations

The Rafa Nadal School is an Anglo-American school authorized in Spain by the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Ministry of Education:

  • Infant and Primary is a fully authorized British school accredited by the British Council. Only schools that have successfully passed an inspection by an authorized accreditor can obtain accreditation. The British Council ensures that all its schools undergo the inspections required by inspectors from the British Department of Education, which allows them to guarantee to parents and the Spanish authorities that British standards of quality are met.
  • Secundaria is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA), one of six regional accrediting organizations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. MSA currently accredits more than 3,500 member schools and institutions in more than 85 countries around the world.

Approval

All of our international students finish at RNS with the American High School Diploma. Our Spanish students finish at the Rafa Nadal School with a double degree, the American High School Diploma and the Spanish High School Diploma (necessary to access Spanish universities). For this it is necessary to complete a series of steps from the moment of enrollment.

Ten years ago, the Rafa Nadal School opened its doors with a clear vision: to provide young people with an outstanding education in an environment where they could grow not only as students, but also as individuals.

Since then, the school has grown into an international community bringing together students from more than 47 nationalities. Although it is located within the Rafa Nadal Academy campus, the school is open to all students, whether or not they compete in sports, and is united by a shared philosophy based on hard work, respect, responsibility, and continuous improvement.

As Rafa Nadal said during the most recent graduation ceremony: “If there is one thing that has guided this project from the very beginning, it is the belief that education opens doors for life.” That belief continues to drive the school today. Our aim is to help every student discover their potential, develop their talents, and gain the confidence to pursue whatever path they choose in the future.

Over the years, hundreds of students have graduated from the Rafa Nadal School and continued their education at universities around the world. Along the way, they have had the opportunity to be inspired by some of the greatest names in international sport—including Toni Kroos, Pau Gasol, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, David Ferrer, Ona Carbonell, Ricky Rubio, Iga Świątek, Carlos Moyá, and Ana Ivanovic—who have shared their experiences with our graduates during one of the most memorable moments of their school journey.

Ten years on, we continue to look towards the future with the same enthusiasm that inspired us on day one: to educate outstanding students, develop exceptional individuals, and prepare responsible global citizens who are ready to make a positive impact on the world around them.

The school day is made up of various activities including classes, sports, field trips, conferences, environmental issues, etc. All of our students are involved in many different areas that keep them interested and engaged, but always in a welcoming and positive environment.

At RNS, there are cultural and educational field trips organized throughout the school year. These excursions always have a pedagogical focus and reinforce classroom learning. Excursions vary according to each year group and include visits to museums, farms, local industries, historical monuments, theaters and nature reserves.

Students are assigned a homeroom tutor in a classroom called the “Homeroom” where they meet daily. This allows the tutor to closely monitor each student and address pastoral responsibilities so that the student feels loved and well cared for. In addition, various topics are addressed, which vary throughout the year, such as social responsibility, recycling, inclusion, bullying, sexual education, etc. This gathering time is an integral part of our pastoral care. Students may also have the opportunity to take turns presenting a topic in which they have a special interest.

We are very conscious that the educational philosophy must be transmitted in an exemplary manner showing respect to all including teacher to student, student to teacher, as well as student to student and the community in general.

All of our students have an assigned mentor teacher with whom they meet regularly during homeroom to discuss academic and pastoral issues. In addition, students in the upper grades lead by example and have the opportunity to mentor younger students and newcomers, so that everyone feels welcome and supported.

  • Students must present original transcripts to be enrolled in the center.
  • Students coming from Spanish schools with a foreign educational system must present a transcript of grades in Spanish with an official translation. This certificate must be signed by the technical director of the center and stamped by the Education Inspectorate.
  • U.S. transcripts must be legalized with the Hague Convention apostille (apostilled document) and the official translation.
  • In order to validate with a Spanish diploma there cannot be a change of educational system during the same school year, that is to say, a student who comes from the Spanish system in January with the first evaluation passed and does the second semester with us will not be able to obtain the Spanish diploma (ESO and Bachillerato). The only option to validate is to repeat the entire course the following year. However, you will not have any problems to obtain the High School Diploma.
  • They will only validate with the whole course approved, each of the semesters of all the subjects enrolled.
  • Classes must be face-to-face and students cannot skip any of the courses.
  • Since the school is located in the Balearic Islands, students are required to take Spanish language and culture, Catalan language and literature, and the Balearic Islands’ own culture (Social Sciences). These subjects are compulsory until the 10th grade, the grade that marks the E.S.O. (Obligatory Secondary Education).
